Contending for the faith Pt. 2.
"For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ."
Jude, the brother of Jesus Christ is drawing our attention to something very critical as it relates to the faith we are in and the faith we believe in. We are exalted to earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto us. The crux of the Christian life is the faith that we have and the faith that we believe in. The Christian faith is rested on CHRIST and his finished works. Any teaching that claims or suggests that the sacrifice of Jesus Christ is not sufficient to give us salvation, deliverance and redemption is false teaching and we must resist it completely. The grace of God is FREE and it is that grace that saved us. Everything that Jesus Christ did on the cross was clearly a demonstration of the grace of God.
Jude is letting us know that some men have crept into the church, and they are parading false teachings which contradict the faith that have been handed over to us. These ungodly men are denying the Lordship of Jesus Christ. John the Apostle also pointed out this in his epistles, Paul in several portions of his epistles also drew our attention to these false teachings. The faith that was delivered unto us is that Jesus Christ was crucified, he died, he was buried and he rose from the dead on the third day according to the scriptures, and that through the finished works, Jesus became Lord and Christ. Therefore to deny the Lordship of Jesus Christ is falsehood. The Apostles of Christ all stated clearly that anyone who does not believe in the Lordship of Christ IS NOT A PART OF CHRIST. It is only those who are in Christ that confess the Lordship of Christ. The sacrifice of Jesus Christ paid completely for the penalty of sin and guaranteed our redemption. The sacrifice of Christ satisfied divine justice and as such there remaineth no other sacrifice.
The same ungodly men are turning the grace of God into lasciviousness. Another translation calls it licentiousness. This means that these men are making mockery of the grace of God by teaching people that they can live the way they like on the account that they already have the grace of God. In my generation this is called hyper grace, grace plus. To deny the efficacy of the grace of God is falsehood but to turn the grace of God into licentiousness is greater falsehood. The wrong teaching is very prevalent in times past and it is even prevalent again today. We were not delivered from sin just so that we can go back to sin because we have the grace of God. The grace of God enables us to live above sin, it does not lead us into sin. Therefore to live in sin and claim that grace covers you is turning the grace of God into lasciviousness. We need to really understand what the grace of God actually is.
