BIBLE READING|DANIEL 9:1-10
What motivates you to engage in fervent prayers and intimate relationship with God? Is it fear, need, lack, sickness, failure, barrenness, joblessness etc. or just love for God?
The story is told of a young man, Tunde, who lived with his Christian uncle but never joined his family at their morning devotions. One fateful night, he had a very bad stomach ache. At about 2a.m. when he could no longer endure the excruciating pain, he started screaming. His uncle and the wife heard him and rushed to his room. They found him on the floor. They laid hands on his stomach and prayed. Instantly, the stomach pain ceased and he went back to sleep. At 6.30am, the usual time for the family prayer, he was already seated on the couch in the sitting room before anyone. That day marked a turning point in his life. He learnt intimacy with God in a hard way.
Daniel did not pass through any pain, lack or need or sickness before he went on his knees to pray – Daniel 9. A simple understanding of the word of God and His will motivated Daniel’s fervent prayer. The prayer of God’s people ought to be similarly motivated. Intimacy with God should be a yearning, a thirst and hunger for God.
PRAYER: Help me Lord to hunger and thirst for your words, so these drive me to the place of intimacy with you.
