BIBLE READING|ISAIAH 32:17-18
The work of righteousness has a promise for us. Whoso hearkens unto the Lord shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil. When it’s time to go to bed, they can go to sleep without lying awake all night worrying about somebody coming in to kill them.
No matter where you live, you can be quiet from fear of evil. You could live in the worst of neighbourhoods, where they are gunning down people, shooting through windows and killing innocent people, breaking in — and have that quietness within. However, if you are not doing the work of righteousness, not hearkening unto the Lord and living a holy life, you may not experience these beautiful promises to be fulfilled in your life because they are for those who love and serve God in obedience, walking in a godly fashion, walking after holiness and righteousness.
“And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever. And My people shall dwell in a peaceable habitation, and in sure dwellings, and in quiet resting places” – vv. 17, 18. The work of righteousness shall be peace: both internal and external. Internal peace means having peace of mind, heart and soul; but when people’s minds are troubled all the time, they find no peace within because there is a real fight of the adversary as he strives to rob them of their peace.
So we have an assurance, for we have complete confidence in the Lord. Yes, the effect of the work of righteousness in our hearts brings us quietness and assurance.
PRAYER: Lord, thank you for your assurance of peace and quietness for me in my life.
