BIBLE READING|1 JOHN 2:13-17
Jesus Christ came to the world to do the will of God, the Father which is, to redeem mankind – John 3:16-17; Romans 5:6-8. Jesus realized the necessity and urgency of the assignment and He pursued it with great zeal and focus – John 9:4, 5. He was not distracted.
The mandate we have received from Christ as His disciples is to continue in the ministry of reconciliation – 2 Corinthians 5:18-20. The will of God is that we shine as light in this perverse world – Matthew 5:14-16. Unfortunately, many Christians are entangled with the affairs of the world instead of pursuing the heartbeat of God – salvation of souls.
John the Beloved in his letter reminded Christians of the need to guard against worldliness, having known the will of God, and what He has done for them. Those who align with the world and its system, he warned, cannot claim to know the will of God, but will be swept away with the world. Only those who do God’s will abide eternally. Whether we are young or old, the counsel is for us.
Knowing that we are in the end time, we must be concerned about the fate of those who are yet to submit to the lordship of Jesus Christ, and therefore devote time to preaching of the Gospel – Matthew 24:14. It is the wisdom of
God that brings us into the knowledge of God’s will through which we can redeem time. When we walk in the word of God (Proverbs 2:6-9), we would be able to pursue the will of God and be assured of a glorious future.
What steps can you take to grow in the knowledge and will of God?
