BIBLE READING|HEBREWS 11:6-16
Have you ever wondered how Noah, who had never seen rain before, believed God it was going to rain to bring about flood? Or what an ark was all about when he had never seen one, and yet was told he would build one? It must have taken some strong faith to proceed to take God’s instructions!
Faith is the ladder through which we connect to God. The blessings which God has made available to us in Christ are accessed by faith. The extent to which we go and succeed in life is also a function of the level of faith operative in us. Faith is in proportion according to the grace given to us by God – Romans 12:6. Faith has some measure because Jesus talked about little (Matthew 17:20) and great faith (Luke 7:9). Jesus’ disciples requested the Master’s help to grow their faith (Luke 17:5).
To succeed in life as Christians, we must fight (2 Tim 4:7-8) because we are not immune from challenges. It takes faith to see the hand of the invisible God, and be assured of His intervention in difficult life situations.
Noah and Abraham were men of strong faith – vv, 7-8. Noah built the ark that preserved a generation, while Abraham trusted God for the son of promise inspite of his old age and weakness of the body. They were commended for their faith. We must covet strong faith like them.
How do we develop a strong faith? Faith comes by hearing the word of God (Romans 10:17). We must give priority to the word – hearing, reading, studying and meditating on it, practicing and obeying what it says – Joshua 1:8. We grow in faith when we grow in the word.
PRAYER: Oh Lord, help me to fight the good fight of faith in life.
