We are created for relationship. Relationships foster in the atmosphere of friendship, love and unity. This was demonstrated by the Godhead – Genesis 1:26. The increasing selfishness among humans and the keener competitions between nations of the world for relevance and domination has further promoted hate and backstabbing. The negative
features of the last days – 2 Timothy 3:1-7 are already with us. While the world may be drifting along this dangerous path, God expects us as Christians and the church to project Him to the world.

Jesus taught and demonstrated to us the friendship, unity and love existing between Him and the Father (John 15:1; 17:1-8). We are to promote these virtues because as He is, so are we in this world (1 John 4:17).

Whether we relate at the home, workplace, church or community levels, there will likely be occasions of friction because of our individuality. Yet in the midst of these, God expects us to promote friendship, love and unity.
(Romans 12:21). This calls for deliberate action on our part as individuals – Proverbs 18:24. We may not know why, when and how we will be offended in the course of life but we can determine to respond positively.

Being steadfast in promoting friendship, love and unity is not a one-off thing; it is for as long as we live – Romans 14:19. Living in the atmosphere of these virtues brings us into a deeper relationship with one another and releases divine blessings upon our lives -Psalms 133.

How would you promote genuine friendship, unity and love in your church or fellowship?

PRAYER: O Lord, bind us together with your love in our churches and Christian groups.
