BIBLE READING|MATTHEW 13:24-30
Our Heavenly Father purposes in His heart to make us do well and flourish. Anything short or contrary to this is largely the enemy’s handwork. From our bible reading today, our lives and endeavours represent the seed (wheat) planted on the good soil of life, but somehow, the enemy sneaked in to sow tares (weeds). Do you know how? The scripture says, “But while men slept, the enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way” – vs. 25.
This calls for a high level of seriousness and alertness. Our Lord is talking about spiritual sleep here, and this happens when a man lets down his guard carelessly. We must take responsibility for our dear lives and those of our family members. While men go to sleep, we need to take heed, and watch carefully all that is happening around us. We cannot afford to take things for granted and believe that everything is normal. We must wake up from our slumber. Life is neither a joke nor a rehearsal; it is a serious journey. Even the bible admonishes us to watch and pray, so we must be alert in the spirit always.
There are times that you are nursing something good, and working so hard to bring it to maturity and harvest, and suddenly, the enemy comes with his manipulation to steal, kill and destroy – John 10:10. Some may have started well, but slept off and the enemy aborted their visions.
In order not to fall victim to the prowling of the enemy, give quality and consistent time to keep awake in the place of prayer, fasting, studying God’s word, and labouring for the Master. Beware of careless sleep, because it was while men slept that the enemy crept in to sow the tares.
PRAYER: Oh Lord, please help me not to sleep when I should be awake.
