BIBLE READING|ISAIAH 8:18, MATTHEW 19:13-14
The Bible has a lot to say about children. During His earthly ministry, Jesus drew adequate attention to children as we read from our bible passages for today. Children are powerful instruments to both God and parents.
As blessing, gift and heritage from God, they are also the joy and great possession of parents – Psalm 127:3-5. They are the instrument through which God wants to display His signs and wonders, power and glory – Isaiah 8:18.
At a time when many adults, including Eli and his sons, were spiritually insensitive in Israel, Samuel was used to deliver a stunning message from God – I Samuel 3:11-14. Also Josiah who became the king of Judah as an eight-year-old brought spiritual restoration to his country – 2 Kings 22:1-2. Today, God has equally called and designed our children to be for such signs and wonders.
As parents, God has entrusted us with great responsibility in this regard. Our children are to be diligently and consistently taught the ways of the Lord – Deut. 6:7. They are to be instructed, disciplined and shown the right path to follow in life – Prov. 22:6; they are to be taught obedience and respect by example, and as keys to longevity – Prov. 4:10; Eph. 6:1-3.
For any child who will covet these virtues in his or her life, and for any parent who will instill these virtues in their children, the great grace of God is available – Titus 2:11-14.
PRAYER: May God make our children and parents signs and wonders in our generation.
