A LITTLE LEAVEN

MAY 28|FRIDAY
BIBLE READING|MATTHEW 16:6-12; 1 CORINTHIANS 5:6-8

Leaven is a substance, typically yeast, which is used in dough to make it rise. Seemingly insignificant, it is all-pervading and powerful. Though silent and hidden, just like salt in soup, it soon affects the whole mass. This is exactly the way it is with divine truth, the gospel. It is often hidden and silent in the heart and community of men, yet steadily, it penetrates all the faculties of the soul and quantitatively invades the kingdoms of this world until they all become the kingdom of God, and His son, Christ Jesus.

The woman in this parable represents all believers in Christ (including you). The woman did not only accept the leaven but deposited it where it could influence the whole mass of meal. So also must you first allow the gospel to transform your life first before it can bring about a radical positive change to your immediate environment – spouse, children, neighbours, friends, relatives, colleagues, etc. Your life, as a leaven must enhance the preaching of the Gospel till all around you is affected. You must impact other people’s lives. This is the duty of all who accept Christ as Lord and Saviour – Matt. 24:14.

What are you doing with the grace of God upon your life? The truth of the gospel that you have known is a leaven. Now, arise and let your little leaven infect and affect the whole mass of people and lives around you. The gospel of Jesus Christ is the power of God unto salvation for all men, so carry it wherever you go and live it – Romans 1:16.

PRAYER: Lord empower me to use the leaven I have to affect my environment.
